The ‘Dawn ‘til Dusk’ day begins at 8:00 a.m. with the Shriner’s Pancake Breakfast and then thousands line the old Island Highway to catch the parade which begins at 10:00. The parade, which has over 80 entries, leads the adoring crowds down into the Community Park which is located right downtown on the beach. A lively concert band entertains the masses until noon and the singing of Oh Canada, lead aptly by one of the talented locals. Following speeches and the cutting of the huge birthday cake, there’s live entertainment on main stage and numerous activities throughout the park including a kiddies carnival, displays, rides, food and even a beach volleyball tournament. The park activities wind down around 3:00 to allow folks to rest up for the breath-taking fireworks display in the bay at dusk. “The focus of the day is on family fun and being Canadian” adds Kim Burden.
